Jackie – I Am 21 is a whole emotional bundle that emphasizes living your aspirations to the fullest. The film’s director, Renasha Rai Rana, has developed an uplifting entertainment film for Nepalese audiences.
Jackie – I Am 21 Movie Story:
The plot centers around the protagonist Jackie (Dhiraj Magar), a 21-year-old aspiring hip-hop dancer in Nepal. Jackie lives with his parents in Dharan and is currently joining in the British Army. He does not want to join the army, but his father forces him to. And it never provides him with personal serenity and fulfillment.
Jackie is preparing to perform at a concert in Dharan, his homeland, but the event organizers prefer Kathmandu dancers. This irritates him to the point where he withdraws from the event without performing. When he returned home, his father was dissatisfied because he had not applied for the British Army on time. Jackie’s haughty father knocks him up, and he from his home and family in a rage to follow his goal.
Jackie travels to Kathmandu with his close buddy Suresh, who prepares to relocate to another country for better job possibilities. Both arrive in Kathmandu and head to Suresh’s brother Rupesh’s house. Rupesh is a reserved and quiet man. Rupesh and Jackie’s brother used to be members of the Dharan band, but they have since left and moved on with their lives.
Jackie begins as a Pathao rider in Kathmandu to make ends meet. One day, Ruby (Jassita Gurung) phones Pathao, and Jackie arrives to take her up. Jackie is head over heels in love with her at first sight. Jackie joins Ruby’s hip-hop dance group after finding she is a hip-hop dancer. Ruby and Jackie are overjoyed to be joining another crew to compete in the Hip Hop Dance Championship after organizing a team.
Ruby is a young woman who enjoys hip-hop dancing. She is a young woman from a Newari household. Her single mother works really hard to ensure a brighter future for her daughter. She earns a livelihood by working at a restaurant and takes dancing lessons in her spare time. Ruby’s maternal uncle regularly complains about her activities and pulls her leg. Ruby had a headache as a result of this.
Jackie and his ‘Yoddhaz’ team work really hard to make it to the dancing championship show. They are chosen through the audition process and will compete in the Hip Hop Dance Championship. If they win the struggle, they will be able to realize their ambition. Until the quarter-finals, Yoddhaz’s team was in top form. Jackie falls on the floor by accident during the quarterfinals, and the team is ousted from the league. This one terrible event in their lives causes them to live a troubled existence once more.

Dhiraj Magar (Jackie) offers one of his greatest performances in the film Jackie – I Am 21. He’s really improved his acting and performance over past tries, and it’s a delight to see him perform. His dancing talents are outstanding throughout the film, and his awful family story is actually heartbreaking, forcing the audience to cry. When Dhiraj comes on film with his father, Prem Subba, there is a huge conflict. Outstanding work!
Jassita Gurung (Ruby) has a significant part in Jackie – I Am 21. Jassita is seen as a self-motivated individual who works hard to support herself and her family. She is lovely, and her dialogue throughout the film helps the viewer fall in love with her. Jassita has done her best to bring the part to life throughout the film. Amazing effort!
Prem Subba (Bimal) performs admirably throughout Jackie – I Am 21. His act in the film frays the audience’s nerves. He plays Jackie’s father, who is cruel and arrogant. His ferocious features and wrathful demeanor enraged the audience. We dislike the character in the film, but his performance is excellent. Wonderful!
Direction & Story Telling:
The writer/director, Renasha Rai Rana, has created a fantastic film, Jackie – I Am 21, that genuinely inspires young people. As a choreographer, she understands the dance and it shows on the screen. Besides, she didn’t skimp on crafting a power-pack dance film because the ensemble did an outstanding job. The finest combination in the film is the background soundtrack by Rohit Shakya and choreography by The Wild Ripperz Crew. Great effort!
Movie Verdict:
Films like Jackie – I Am 21 are rare in Nepal. We must treasure these films because the directors go to great lengths to tell a unique and captivating tale. Aside from the great music and dancing techniques, Dhiraj Magar and Prem Subba’s narrative and performance make for an enthralling experience. Jackie, you have to see the movie I Am 21!
